About The Therapist

Marilyn Benedict

Personal:
Marilyn considers Waxahachie, Texas her home. She was born and raised in San Antonio.  After graduating from Alamo Heights High School, she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology (SWS) from the University of Texas in Austin.  She earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling and Guidance from Texas A&M University in Commerce and has done post-graduate work at Saybrook Institute in California. While visiting Waxahachie many years ago, Marilyn and her husband, Ronnie, “fell in love” with Ellis County and moved from Dallas in 1983 so they could enjoy country living in Waxahachie.  Marilyn and Ronnie have one son, Bret.

In her free time, Marilyn enjoys spending time with her family, visiting with friends and traveling.  She also likes to find unique treasures to purchase in the quaint stores located in downtown Waxahachie. Or, she often just relaxes while enjoying an afternoon of window-shopping in this lovely downtown area. Marilyn has been involved in many organizations within the Waxahachie community since she moved from the Dallas area.  She is a long-term member of the Kiwanis Club of Waxahachie and a volunteer with Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

Marilyn works with individuals who are currently experiencing difficulties and emotional pain in their lives. She is mindful that an individual’s decision to seek counseling may be a difficult one.  The choice to seek counseling should be viewed as a strength not as a weakness.  Marilyn will listen to the individual’s personal concerns in a confidential, caring and relaxed atmosphere.  She will provide guidance as the client progresses to attain equilibrium on her or his personal journey toward emotional health.

Marilyn is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC #2357) and Registered Play Therapist (RPT #135) in private practice; an Instructor-Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education; a Consultant with businesses, schools and agencies; and an Educator with Navarro College, universities and professional organizations.
